What does a teacher look like?
Posted on Tuesday, June 1st, 2010 at 6:12 pmToday was a funny day at school. We had a mountain man come and present to our fourth grade. Well, he points and me and says, “I don’t know what she is…is she a head volunteer or something?” Then just an hour later a parent comes up to me and asks who I was. When I told her, she said, “You don’t look like a teacher!” I just had to laugh…twice in a matter of hours. So now my question is what does a teacher look like? Just for fun, I googled teacher images to see what came up.
So maybe I need glasses and my hair in a bun??
However, even though it’s funny that people don’t think I could be a teacher, I actually enjoy it–because most of the time I think it’s that I don’t look “old” enough to be a teacher. As far as I’m concerned, I don’t ever want to look “old enough!”

That is so funny! I teach part-time at a local community college and have been mistaken for a student several times!
That’s hilarious! Maybe you just need to smile less or something. Wear “older” looking clothes – don’t be so chique (is that how you spell it?)… my portugues is bad, I know.
When I was teaching at Harris Intermediate School (6-7 graders) not many of the other teachers knew me because I was only there for 2 periods a day. One day I was talking on my cell phone in the hallway and a teacher came up to me and tried to confiscate my phone!!! I told her that I was actually a teacher and showed her my badge as proof… yeah, that was pretty funny. Though I had to wonder why she mistook me for a 12-year-old!!!!
I’m glad that I’m not the only one who doesn’t look my age!
I can’t believe that you had to show your badge as proof! That is so funny!
