Are we crazy???

I have one of those lists that has everything I want to do in my life. One of those items is run a marathon. I don’t know why that one is on the list, because I am not a runner. I briefly ran in college. I trained for a 5K. I was able to run that, but it nearly killed me. Since a marathon is a HUGE difference from a 5K, I’m still not sure about my reasoning. So anyway….that’s my crazy desire to run a marathon.
Last week my sister told me about the Top of the Utah Half Marathon in Logan. She told me that she wanted to do it and asked me if I would do it with her. I decided that I should just do it! So I came home and told Steve about it. I told him I was going to have a hard time training, because my sister lives in Provo and I’d have to train alone. Well, he decided that he would run the marathon with me.
So Tuesday, we decided to have our first “training.” We went to the track at the local high school. Since it started raining, we only did 3 laps. We thought that the laps were 1/2 mile, so when we finished we went on and on about how great we did, and how we thought we could do this marathon. Unfortunately we came home, found out that the laps are only 1/4 mile. We had only done 3/4 of a mile…..
The next day, we decided to do our actual training. We had to run 2 miles. We thought it might be a little tougher, but we thought we could do it. So we ran one mile, walked a lap, then ran another mile….and we nearly died! Only 2 miles!!! So you may want to ask, how are we ever going to run 13.1 miles??? Well, we are going to continue training, do our best, and then if all else fails walk some of it. At least when we’re done I can say that I’ve done a marathon, and maybe I’ll just add the word “half” to my marathon goal!
What’s on your list of things to do????
I am so envious of your running abilities. Matt said he won't run with me because he knows he can't yell at me to go faster like he does with Andrea. The saddest part is my brother can walk faster than I run. Maybe I need to hire a rabid dog to chase after me so that I can become a better runner.:)
You should come run with me! I'm definitely not speedy!!
Way to go Steve and Amy!!! I wanted to go do the STP (Seattle to Portland) this year in one day with a friend but just couldn't make it happen with a lack of a proper bike and the unmotivation to train. Keep up the training and I bet you guys will surprise yourselves.
