CPR/First Aid Class

On Saturday, Steve and I took a CPR/First Aid class. I’ve been wanting to take this class for a long time, because I’m with a lot of children everyday. I’d hate to think that I wouldn’t know what to do if something happened with one of the kids. I didn’t really want to go by myself, so I convinced Steve to go with me! It was actually a good class. The nurses didn’t make the class go longer than necessary and I learned a lot of good information. Now we’re officially certified…well almost…as soon as our cards come in the mail! :)

We did have to laugh, because everyone gets certified. There was a lady there who needed to be certified because she works in a day care. It was pretty scary though because she could not figure out the steps to CPR, even when we practiced them several times. Then when we were learning how to do the Abdominal Thrust (previously called the Heimlich Maneuver) she could not figure out how to place her hands correctly. I tried to help her by moving her hands in the proper place, but even that did not help. In Steve’s words, “I would rather die than have her do CPR on me!” But most likely in that case, you’d be unconscious and at least you wouldn’t know!! :)

I’m glad I have the information, but I’m hoping I NEVER have to use it!!

I keep thinking about taking a class to re-certify for CPR. I was certified years ago. Before we could take Dylan home from the hospital, they made sure we knew how to do CPR (but we didn’t have to certify). One nurse even said that if people ask how they can help to tell them to give blood and learn CPR.
