Summer is fun!!!
Posted on Monday, July 21st, 2008 at 9:01 amWe’ve done a lot of fun things this summer and I haven’t been posting really well, so here is a short update of some of the fun things.
Steve’s Birthday was fun. We had some of a Steve’s friends over for a little party. This is a picture of one of the presents he received…a nerf gun set!
For my birthday, Steve took me to Mueller Park. We got Costa Vida to go, and ate up there. Then we roasted s’mores. It was a fun and relaxing birthday night!
Then a couple of weeks ago, I decided Steve and I needed a little vacation, so I suprised him by reserving a hotel room in Salt Lake for the night. We rode Frontrunner to Salt Lake. Steve takes Frontrunner to work everyday, but it was my first time–so he showed me the ropes! It’s a good thing Steve has a pass, otherwise it would be too expensive–but it was nice to not drive! We had a great time in Salt Lake. Even though we didn’t go far, it was still fun to have a mini-vacation!!
Last Friday, I started teaching an English class. There are some Chinese students staying with host families in the area, so over the next three weeks, we teach them English in the mornings. It has been a really fun experience. The kids are really fun! There are a few things that really surprised me about the Chinese students. They love basketball–especially the boys. While we were doing another activity, some of the boys found a few basketballs in the gym and I had to stop them from playing. Another interesting thing, they’ve never seen drinking fountains. They were pretty amazed to see how we get water from them. I’ve also had an interesting time trying to pronounce their names. Luckily for me, some of them have chosen some English names to make it easier for us Americans. This has been a great experience for the summer! I’ll make sure to get some pictures posted of the students.
Summer is going by WAY too fast, but I’m loving it!!
I am glad to hear that you guys had a good mini-vacation. I don’t think you can ever have too many of them! I love how you always have little interesting tidbits to share – who would have guessed they’ve never seen drinking fountains! I love it!
How fun! You guys deserve it! We have yet to try our hand at front runner, it seems pointless when there is a bus route 20 yards from our house and we would have to drive many miles to the nearest train station. But we need to go, just for the experience. Fun to hear about your English classes too. Hope all is well in your world!
