Tetherball

A couple of days ago I let my class have an extra recess. I was just watching to make sure everyone was okay, and some of the kids were playing tetherball. They begged me to come play with them. Since I try to be a fun teacher, I agreed. Everyone knows I’m not a very “sporty” person, but I thought that I could play tetherball–I used to love it when I was in elementary school. So I had to ask the kids to remind me of the rules and then we started playing. I lost within a matter of minutes! Then another girl wanted to play me and luckily I was able to beat her, although it was a close game. Then I had to play one more time, and yes, I lost AGAIN to a girl half my size!! After we came back in, a few kids in my class were telling me how wonderful of a tetherball player I was–I had to wonder did they see me play? Then another boy said, I think it’s only because she’s tall. And then my favorite comment. “I saw you play teacher, you were pretty good, but you didn’t really look like you’d been playing your whole life!!” I guess I need to brush up on my tetherball skills!!
