And the votes are in…..

Posted in Uncategorized | 6 Comments »

Yesterday was an interesting day for us. I convinced Steve that we needed to go and experience our first caucus meeting. I actually didn’t know what it was until a few weeks before. (I had to have my parents explain it to me). Apparently it is where you elect delegates who actually vote for you for certain things. So we went and at first listened to a couple of speeches by some candidates. Then we went to our precinct meeting. This is where you meet with the people who live right around you. Well, our plan was just to go and observe and not talk at all. I just wanted to get a little political experience. Well, the first thing that they voted for was the secretary/treasurer for the precinct. One of the guys at the meeting points to me and says, “she looks nice I nominate her.” I was taken aback, especially since I thought I was coming to observe. Well they counted the votes and I got the second highest amount of votes and so I am the “alternate” secretary/treasurer. I was a little relieved especially since I didn’t know what the job description even was. So then we start voting for the county delegates, and I get nominated again, and then Steve gets nominated. We were both a little nervous at this one, but we didn’t know that you could turn down a nomination. Well since this was actually an important job, you had to make a one minute speech about what you were looking for in a candidate, etc. Of course Steve and I did not have a speech planned. Steve’s speech consisted of, “I’m new at this, but if you want to vote for me, I would do my best.” Mine was also very basic, but I added a little plea, “I’m new, but I’d love to learn!!” Our speeches together probably weren’t even one minute!! :) Well, not to our surprise we didn’t make it. We ended up being the second and third alternates. Well, I was second and Steve was third…if you want to know the actual vote counts!! :) We were a little relieved not to be delegates…we thought maybe next year when we know a little more about the process. So we left the meeting satisfied that we had done our political duty, but then about an hour later, I got a call saying they actually needed more delegates from our precinct and so I was chosen to be a county delegate. I’m still learning about what that actually means, but it should be a good experience.

Happy Easter

Here are a few pictures of our new Easter clothes. In my family we always had a tradition to take pictures in our new clothes right after church. So in keeping with tradition…here they are!

Steve didn’t know I was taking his picture, but I thought I’d include in anyways.

Girl's Day Out!

Posted in Uncategorized | 3 Comments »

Yesterday was my one day of Spring Break. My sister, mom and I decided to go shopping for our Easter clothes. My Grandparents are really kind and every year they give us some money to buy an Easter dress and then whatever money we have left can go for more clothes! So we had a fun day! It was definately a shop until you drop day. We shopped for about four hours, but luckily we came back with some good deals and great new clothes!

While we were shopping, we were reminded of our younger days where we used to like to get an easter bonnet and purse to go with our dress–usually they were those dresses that came with all of it together. I think we cared more about the purse and hat than the actual dress! So in TJ Max, I had to make sure I found the perfect Easter bonnet to go with my dress. My sister, Andrea found her own style of the Easter bonnet.

Then we extended our Girl’s Day Out into a Girl’s Night out and watched Enchanted. This is my second time seeing it and it’s one of my all-time favorite movies. I haven’t purchased a movie in a long time, but I am planning on getting this one!

It was a great day!!!

Too young????

Yesterday at school one of the girls in my class said, “I have a question for you.” Then she paused and said, “Maybe I should put it this way. How young are you?” Just for fun, I usually make the kids guess all year how old I am and then I tell them toward the end of school, so I told her that. Then all the kids started guessing. The first guess was 18!! They make me laugh.

Then a couple of days ago I was home at night while Steve had a late night at school. A salesman came to the door, asking if I had soft water, I automatically told him we weren’t interested. And then he said, well can I at least talk to your parents!?! I smiled and then he realized his mistake. He stammered an apology and left quickly!

So I guess that I look too young!! Of course I am not complaining…as long as it stays this way for the rest of my life!!

Just a few updates!

I haven’t posted in awhile mostly because I haven’t really had anything to write about! My vacation ended the last week of February, so I have been back in school since then! It was nice to have such a long break, but it really made it hard to go back. It’s way too nice to stay at home and do whatever you want all day! So if anyone figures out how to stay at home, not work, and get a paycheck, let me know!! Although I think that I probably would get bored after awhile.

My job at my current elementary school was up in the air for awhile. They just built a new elementary school which meant that we would be losing 24% of our students, and quite a few teachers too. I was on the list to have to go to another school, so I interviewed at the new school and I was offered the position. However, I lucked out, because one of the other fourth grade teachers decided to leave and go to the new school, so I was able to stay! I was excited, because I’ve already had to change schools, and I was ready to settle down and stay at the same school for awhile.

The last update is that Steve has become a video gamer!! When we were dating he always told me he didn’t like to play video games very much, but since we’ve got the Wii, he has definitely changed his mind! We just got Guitar Hero a couple of weeks ago, and already he’s become a pro! (I will post pictures of that later, because it’s fun to see him going crazy with the guitar–he has some great dance moves). I think it is also his way of escaping his homework! But really, who would want to do homework when you could play the Wii?????

Anyway…that’s my updates! Congrats if you made it through my long (not so interesting) updates!
